Bethlehem Babies: What do these children have in Common?

Redwood City, CA - November 15 - Within the last 15 years, each of these children played the part of the Baby Jesus in the Bay Area’s largest outdoor interactive Nativity, “Bethlehem AD”, located in Redwood City.

Having been the “star of the show” when they were less than 6 months old, few of the children have firsthand memory of their star turn, but their families have told them that up to 10,000 people a night walked or drove past the manger to admire them as they slept in a warmly heated wooden crib alongside their parents (playing the roles of Mary and Joseph) and surrounded by angels dancing on the roof; wise men coming by with gifts; and camels kneeling nearby. In between naps, the babies might have noticed Roman centurions marching in formation; tax collectors and census takers; King Herod and his entourage; Israeli folk dancers; hundreds of costumed villagers; and dozens of animals for petting. But the focal point of the town of Bethlehem on the night of the first Christmas is a very special baby.

As “Bethlehem AD” gears up for it’s 15th year, to open December 21st, the “Bethlehem Babies” look forward to welcoming the newest Baby Jesus –to be played by Emerson Gomez, a 2 month old baby girl who will prove that the part of Baby Jesus is an equal opportunity role in the greatest story every told.

Another thing the “Bethlehem Babies” have in common (and one might say it’s miraculous, considering the crowds) – not one baby has cried while in the role of newborn king.
